About Us

Mark Musumarra

Mark has over 10 years of experience in trails and natural resource management. His passion for trail construction and maintenance began as a backcountry ranger on the slopes of Grandfather Mountain in 2009. Mark graduated from Appalachian State University in 2011 with a B.S. in Recreation Management. He went on to serve as a State Park Ranger in two states, Texas and North Carolina. Deciding it was time for a change, Mark co-founded Moosewood Elemental with his wife, Rachiel in early 2022. Mark’s experience in the government sector gives him a unique perspective and unparalleled experience in all things trails. Mark has developed his skills as a contractor over the years, renovating homes and working on other projects with master carpenters and stone masons.

Rachiel Musumarra

Rachiel has a passion for helping others, being outside, and music. Professionally she likes to help businesses operate effectively, efficiently and with integrity. She brings a background in accounting and business processes with over 14 years of professional experience. Educationally she holds a Masters of Accounting degree from Gardner-Webb University, as well as a Bachelors of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics from Appalachian State University. Her heart lives in the Appalachian mountains where she spends her free time hiking and homesteading with her husband Mark, as well as playing her fiddle as often as possible.
